Survey and Monitoring of Bph and Its Natural Enemies in Sirajgonj (afaci Project,)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Peak incidence of BPH was observed 1st October to 1st November in Washin and that was from mid-October to first November in Betrashin and Aurongail during Aman season. Among the natural enemies spider population was higher than the others and the population was comparatively lower in Betrashin and Aurongail than Washin. During Boro season peak highest plathoppers was observed in the early May. Population of natural enemies also increased but not as planthoppers during May.

Objectives:

To monitor the population density, abundance and incidence pattern of BPH and their natural enemies in the project area.

Methodology:

Planthoppers were monitored weekly by yellow sticky traps at Washin, Betrashin, Aurangail, Ghargram and Dobila of Tarash upazilla in T. Aman 2012 and Boro 2013 seasons. Sticky traps (15.24 x 25.4 cm) were placed in two plots in each location. In each plot trapping was done diagonally at 10 randomly selected spots of the field. At each trapping spot, sticky trap was hold flatly between two plants at the base and the plants were tapped three times to capture insects.

In T. Aman 2012 higher incidence (peak) was from the 1st October to 1st November in Washin and that was from mid-October to first November in Betrashin and Aurongail. Like planthoppers, natural enemy population was caught from the first to mid-September. Among the natural enemies spider population was higher than the others and the population was comparatively lower in Betrashin and Aurongail than Washin. In Boro 2013, both planthoppers and natural enemy population remained low up to March. But the planthopper population tended to increase from the 2nd week of April and peaked during the early May. Population of natural enemies also increased but not as planthoppers during May.
