Yield and Yield Attributes of International Grasspea Germplasms Containing Low-odap

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted in Regional Pulses Research Station (RPRS), Madaripur during 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 to evaluate the performance of low ß-ODAP content grasspea germplasm. Ten entries received from ICARDA, which were tested at RPRS, Madaripur. The lines were SEL-1348, SEL-290, SEL-299, SEL-1326-2, SEL-449, SEL-B-222, SEL-1335, SEL-1336, SEL-1328, and SEL-1337 including on one check variety, BARIkhesari-2 were used for the trial. In 2010-11, the highest yield (1497 kg/ha) was found from SEL-1335 and the lowest (644 kg/ha) from SEL-1326. In 2011-12, the highest yield (1358 kg/ha) was found from SEL-1348 while the lowest yield (715 kg/ha) from SEL-B-222 and SEL-290. From the two years yield data it can be concluded that the line SEL-1335 and SEL-1348 can be tested in preliminary yield trial at different Pulses Research Station in Bangladesh.

Objectives:

The objective of the trial is to find out the suitable lines containing low toxin of lathayrism (β-N-oxalyl-L-α, β-diamino propionic acid) to test in Preliminary Yield Trial level.

Methodology:

ICARDA has been collaborating with the Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna in supplying improved genetic materials, segregating populations of grasspea. In 2009-10 ICARDA provided low- ß-ODAP content germplasm and segregates were used in the experiment at Madaripur. The seeds were sown at RPRS, Madaripur on 29 November 2010 and 17 November 2011 in 2 rows × 4 m plot in a RCBD with 3 replications. Seeds were sown in 40 cm apart rows continuously by hands and then covered by soils. Post sowing irrigation was given to ensure seed germination. Each of the entries were investigated from seedling to harvest and compared with checks. Data on yield and major yield contributing characters were recorded. Data on yield contributing characters were recorded from 10 randomly selected plants from each plot and grain yield (kg/ha) were recorded from whole plot and analyzed statistically through MSTAT-C programme.

Achievement/Findings:

With the findings of the present study, it may be concluded that, the entries SEL-1335 and SEL-1348 both performed well in question of yield. In 2010-2011 the maximum seed yield 1497kg/ha was obtained in SEL-1335 followed by SEL-1348 (1070 kg/ha). In 2011-2012, the maximum seed yield 1358 kg/ha was found in the entry SEL-1348 followed by the entry SEL-1335 (1080 kg/ha). From the two years yield data it can be concluded that the lines SEL-1335 and SEL-1348 can be tested in Preliminary Yield Trial (PYT) at different Pulses Research Station in Bangladesh.
