Selection and Application of Bph Management Technologies in Sirajgonj

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

During Aman 2012 peak pest and natural enemy populations were observed in August to the 1st week of September and again from mid-October to the end of November at Washin of Tarash upazilla, Sirajganj. On the other hand the natural enemies were trapped from the second week of June and the peak incidence was from mid-August to the end of September at Dobila. During Boro 2013, winged adults of planthoppers were very much active and caught in considerable number in the light trap from 1st-3rd week of December at Ghargram, Dobila and Washin. Afterwards the population decreased to minimum and again started to increase and peaked in mid of May.

Objectives:

To monitor the population density, abundance and incidence pattern of BPH and their natural enemies in the project area.

Methodology:

Pennsylvanian light traps were operated at three locations (Dobila, Ghargram and Washin) of the project area from June 2012 to May 2013. The traps were operated from dusk to dawn and the insect pests and natural enemies caught in the trap were collected, sorted, counted and the numbers recorded in the data sheet every day. In case of power failure there was an alternative power supply by solar panel.

Achievement/Findings:

During T.Aman 2012 natural enemy population incidence differed between the two locations. At Washin pest and natural enemy population populations were trapped from 1st week of July and peaked in August to the 1st week of September and again from mid-October to the end of November. On the other hand the natural enemies were trapped from the second week of June and the peak incidence was from mid-August to the end of September in Dobila. Winged adults of hoppers were started to appeared in the trap in the first week of September in Washin and whereas in Dobila it started in mid-October. The peak incidence differed in those locations. At Washin the planthoppers peaked from mid-October to the end of November and those at Dobila from second week to the end of November. During Boro 2013, winged adults of planthoppers were very much active and caught in considerable number in the light trap from 1st-3rd week of December at Ghargram, Dobila and Washin. Afterwards the population decreased to minimum and again started to increase from the last week of April and peaked in mid of May. All the natural enemy populations were higher during December. Except lady bird beetle the other prey population was not at par with the increasing hopper population in April.
