Objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of this fertilizer on the growth and yield of T. Aman and Boro rice. The experiment was initiated at two locations: BRRI farm, Gazipur and BRRI R/S farm, Rangpur in T. Aman season, 2008. Integrated use of organic and inorganic fertilizer is the best option for sustainable increased crop production and improved soil fertility.

To evaluate the performance of this fertilizer on the growth and yield of T. Aman and Boro rice

The experiment was initiated at two locations: BRRI farm, Gazipur and BRRI R/S farm, Rangpur in T. Aman season, 2008. During the reporting period four field trials (two in T. Aman season and two in Boro season) were conducted. The following six treatment combinations were tested up to T. Aman season 2009: T1 = Abs. control (Native nutrients), T2 = 100 % of chemical fertilizer ( NPKS@ 70-10-40-10 kg /ha), T3 = T2 + 2 t WCOF/ha (OD), T4 = 75% of T2 + 2 t WCOF/ha (OD), T5 = 50% of T2 + 2 t WCOF/ha (OD) and T6 = 2 t WCOF/ha (OD). However the treatments were modified as follows from Boro 2009-10: T1 = Abs. control (Native nutrients), T2 = STB dose with chemical fertilizer, T3 = Only N (STB) from urea, T4 = IPNS with cow dung @ 3 t/ha (OD), T5 = IPNS with WCOF @ 3 t/ha (OD) and T6 = IPNS with Rice straw @ 4.5 t/ha (OD). The experiments were laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The sources of nutrients N-P-K-S were Urea, TSP, MP, and Gypsum respectively. All TSP, MP, Gypsum, and organic materials were applied at the final land preparation. Urea was applied into three equal splits: 1/3 N as basal, 1/3 N at early tillering stage and the remaining 1/3 N at 5-7 days before panicle initiation stage. BR22 and BRRI dhan46 were used as test crop in T. Aman season at Gazipur and Rangpur, respectively. In Boro season at the both locations BRRI dhan29 were used. Two-three seedlings/hill were transplanted with 20 cm x 20 cm spacing. Necessary intercultural operations were done when required.

Application of WCOF in combination with chemical fertilizer significantly increased the grain and straw yield of BR 22 and BRRI dhan46 over control at both Gazipur and Rangpur locations. In T. Aman season, the treatment T4 where WCOF was applied @ 2 t/ha in combination with 75 % of NPKS @ 70-10-40-10 kg /ha, saved 25% chemical fertilizers and produced substantially higher yield. Integrated use of organic and inorganic fertilizer is the need of time for sustainable increased crop production and improved soil fertility. In addition, reduced use of chemical fertilizer positively influences the environment through reducing contamination of air, soil and water. In Boro applied fertilizer significantly increased the grain and straw yield of Boro rice at both locations. All organic materials including WCOF applied with IPNS based performed sound to get a maximum yield and it might be saved a good amount of chemical fertilizer. From the treatment T3, it was observed that using only N fertilizer did not produce a maximum yield. To get a maximum yield it is needed to apply other non-urea fertilizer in Boro season. Percent grain yield increase over control varied from 73 to 100 among the treatments.
