Effect of Shakti Fertilizer and Organic Fertilizer on the Yield of Tea and Its Soil Properties

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Northern Shakti fertilizer and organic fertilizer are manufactured by Northern agro-services Bangladesh Ltd. and claimed to be best types of organic fertilizer. It is told that it helps increase the fertility of soil by correcting the shortage of organic matter in soil. As a result, the yield is increased. Northern organic fertilizer contains N=4%, P= 1.15 %, K=1.5% and S= 1% Ca= 2.5% Mg= 0.75%, Fe= 0.05%, Mn= 170ppm, Zn=150ppm, O.M.=15% where as Northern “Shakti” contains N=6%, p=8%, K=10%, S=2%, Mg= 1% B= 0.1% , OM=30%. These organic fertilizers have been used extensively in many others crops like rice, vegetables, jute etc and it was understood that it will bring positive results in tea also.

Methodology:

Treatments: 4 Replication: 3 Design: RBD Plot size: 40ftx20ft Treatment combination: T₁ = Control T₂= BTRI usual fertilizer dose T₃ = BTRI dose + Northern Organic fertilizer 300kg/ha T₄ = 350kg/ha northern Shakti + 250kg/ha Urea + 30kg MOP Regular weekly data were recorded.

Achievement/Findings:

The result shows that the use of organic & Shakti fertilizer has positive effect on the yield of tea. The experiment was conducted for 3 years and the average yield data have been compared with BTRI normal fertilizer dose for tea. Increase the yield, T₃ (BTRI normal dose + Northern organic fertilizer) was calculated as 9%, compared to T₂ (BTRI normal fertilizer dose for mature tea).
