Variety and Species
The experiment was conducted at Jute Agriculture Experimental Station, Manikganj, Rangpur and Kishoreganj to evaluate for morpho-agronomic attributes, disease and pest tolerance of thirty accessions of desi jute (C. capsularis) along with check varieties varieties CVL-1 and CC-45 were sown on 27 March, 2001. The materials under study were 2134, 2171, 2210, 2318, 2386, 3151, 3259, 3309, 3337, 3449, 3478, 3490, 3513, 4374, 4453, 4615, 4620, 4683, 4700, 4705, 4706, 4710, 4728, 4730, 4872, 4951, 4953, 4958, 5000 and 5061. The experiment was laid out in RCBD design with three replications. The length of line was 3 m, spacing 30 cm between rows and 5-7 cm between plants. Standard cultural practices were followed. Pigmentation data on stem color, leaf color, vain color, petiole color, stipule color, bud color, and fruit color were collected at 60 days after sowing. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data on plant height, node number, base diameter of stem, middle diameter of stem, top diameter of stem, core diameter, dry fiber weight and dry stick weight were collected. The data were analyzed following standard statistical procedures.
