Screening and Evaluation of C.olitorius Germplasm for Drought Tolerance Following Chemical Method.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This was a laboratory experiment conducted through germination test in polyethylene glycol-600 (PEG-600) solution. On the first hand a base line for screening C.olitorius germ plasm was determined by using the var. O-9897 as control through germination test in a gradient of PEG solution comprising water potentialof-7, -9, -10, -13, -16 bar. The -13 bar water potential was used to screen the germ plasm where the control var. O-9897was failed to germinate but splitted well at 4 days after seed placement. Eighty-seven accessions including var O-9897 were used in this screening program. It was observed that among the test materials, only 1-2% seeds of 3 accessions were able to germinate in -13 bar water potential which were 1244,1250 and 1296.
