Screening C. Olitorius Germplasm for Short-day Tolerance

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Seeds of 100 C.olitorius accessions along with var. OM-1 and O-9897 as control was sown in two times in the field in 3m single rows. The dates of 1st and 2nd sowings were 1 and 15 March, 2001 respectively. Out of 100 accessions 76 accessions were germinated in the field.The result showed that in the 1st sowing, thirty two accessions flowered within 30-45 days after sowing (DAS) and the rest of he accessions flowered within 75 DAS but the controls O-9897 and OM-1 were flowered after 204 and 207 DAS, respectively. In the 2nd sowing 15 accessions were flowered within 30-45 DAS and rest of the accessions flowered before 75 DAS, whereas, O-9897 and OM-1 flowered after 201 and 209 DAS, respectively.In the 1st sowing, 14 and in the 2nd sowing 24 individual plants from different accessions were found toerant to short-day which were flowered within 150-226 DAS.

Methodology:

This experiment was carried out in JAES, Manikganj. Seeds of 100 C.olitorius accessions along with var. OM-1 and O-9897 as control was sown in two times in the field in 3m single rows.
