Storage and Viability of Seeds of Kenaf Variety Hc-2, Hc-95 and Advanced Breeding Line Cpi-72126 and Mesta Variety Hs-24.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This experiment were conducted at Physiology Laboratory. Seeds of the variety of HC-2, HC-95, HS-24 and breeding line CPI-72126 were stored in gunny bag and airtight container. The seed moisture content and viability of the seeds were recorded every month. The result showed that the initial germination percentage of seeds of all the varieties were around 90% and moisture percentage were around 8.5-9%. It was observed that seeds of all varieties and breeding line lost its viability to O% by 2 months time, when stored in gunny bag and at that time moisture of the seeds were around 13-15%. After 5 months of storage in airtight tin, germination percentage of seeds of HC-2, HC-95, HS-24 and breeding line CPI-72126 were DECREASED TO 37, 57, 22 AND 70% RESPECTIVELY. The original moisture content in the tin container did not increase to a large extent. It is increased reasonably from around 8.5 to 11%.
