Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Demonstration trial of the new breeding line of kenaf CPI-72126/1 was conducted at Manikganj, Rangpur, Faridpur, Chandina, Kishoreganj, Patuakhali, Tarabo and Monirampur along with recommended varieties HC-2 and HC-95 (Check) during the year 2006. CPI-72126 performed better against the check varieties in respect of plant height, base diameter, green weight with and without leaves, sundry weight, dry stick weight and dry fibre weight. CPI-72126 gave significantly higher fiber yield (3.89 t/ha) than HC-95 (3.78 t/ha) at Manikganj.

Objectives:

To evaluate fibre yield, quality, adaptability and overall suitability of Kenaf advanced lines at farmer’s field in different regions as well as on stations.

Methodology:

The breeding line CPI-72126/1 of Kenaf was developed from an Australian accession number CPI-72126/1 by pure line selection. It out yielded the control varieties like HC-2 and HC-95. The experiment was carried out at Manikganj, Rangpur, Faridpur, Chandina, Kishoreganj, Patuakhali, Tarabo and Monirampur along with the varieties HC-2 and HC-95 (check) during the year 2006 with a view to develop a new vareity producing high biomass containing rapid growth and year round cultivation characters in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications having unit plot size of 4.5m x 3.0m= 1\3.5 sq. m. and farmers plot is 5 decimal x 3= 15 decimal. The seeds were sown in mid April and harvested in Mid-August. Data were recorded on plant population at harvest, plant height, base diameter, green weight with leaves, green weight without leaves, fibre weight and stick weight. Proper intercultural operations and agronomic practices were done for raising plants properly.
