Hybridization Among the Selected Genotypes of White Jute

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Blue seeded white jute is more vulnerable to biotic stresses than other brown seeded white jute. For breeding blue seeded varieties resistant to biotic stresses, the blue seeded lines were crossed with other brown seeded widely adaptive varieties. Under this experiment, seven parents were chosen and 15 crosses were made. Hybrid of six cross combinations were collected - i) Lalshachi X BJC-2142, (ii) Lalshachi X BJC-718, (iii) BJC-718 X CVL-1, (iv) BJC-2142 x CVL-1, (v) C-1 x BJC-2142, (vi) C-3 x BJC-2142.

Objectives:

To create recombinant types by accumulating desirable genes for quantitative and quantitative characters from diverse parents.

Methodology:

Seven accessions were used as parental materials and sown on August 2002.There are three same sets of parents were sown fifteen days intervals for ensuring maximum syncronization.Recommended intercultural and Agronomic practices were done for raising the parental materials. At afternoon, the un-opend but probably mature flowers were emasculated and bagged separately.Next morning,the emasculated flowers were pollinated by desired parent and tagging then bagging.The combination of the crosses were i) Lalshachi X BJC-2142, (ii) Lalshachi X BJC-718, (iii) BJC-718 X CVL-1, (iv) BJC-2142 x CVL-1, (v) C-1 x BJC-2142, (vi) C-3 x BJC-2142.
