Comparative Seed Yield Performance of Different Tossa Jute Varieties Grown as Late Jute Seed Crop.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To compare the seed yield performance of different Tossa jute varieties grown as late jute seed crops, the experiment was conducted at Manikganj, Rangpur, Chandina and Kishoreganj research stations of BJRI.The variety O-72 gave the highest seed yield followed by OM-1 and O-9897 and weight of 1000 seeds of O-4 followed by O-72 are higher than O-9897.

Objectives:

To compare field duration and seed yield of different varieties with an aim to fit the late jute seed crop in 3-crop pattern (Jute-Jute seed-Rabi).

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Jute Agriculture Experimental Station (JAES),Manikganj, Rangpur,Kishoreganj and Chandina regional stations of BJRI in 1998-2001 following RCB design with 3 replications. The unit plot size was 3mx3m. Seeds of four varieties of tossa jute, namely O-9897, OM-1, O-4 and O-72 were sown on 1st week of August and harvested on end of January,. Records on yield and yield parameters were taken and analysed following standard statistical procedures.

Achievement/Findings:

The variety O-72 gave the highest seed yield followed by OM-1 and O-9897 if grown as late jute seed crop.
