Regional Yield Trail (ryt)promising Breeding Materials in Order to Determine the General and Specific Adaptability.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Objective of this study was to evaluation of promising breeding materials in order to determine the general and specific adaptability. Eleven promising lines comprised of two trails (RYT#E and RTY#L) were evaluated against the standard ckecks BRRI dhan28 & BRRI dhan29 at six regional locations. BR6839-41-5-1 and BR4828-2-2-1 superceded all the genotypes and the standard check BRRI dhan29 in yield (mean) across the locations. These entries, therefore,had better general adaptability compared to other entries. On the other hand, BR6484-21-7-3 produced the highest grain yield in Rajshahi and thus showed its specific adaptability at that location.

Objectives:

Evaluation of promising breeding materials in order to determine the general and specific adaptability.

Methodology:

Eleven promising lines comprised of two trails (RYT#E and RTY#L) were evaluated against the standard ckecks BRRI dhan28 & BRRI dhan29 at six regional locations. Forty-five day old seedlings were transplanted in 5.4 m x 10 row plot using 2-3 seedling with a spacing of 20 x 15 cm. The field layout was RCB design with three replications. Fertilizers @ 100-60-40 kg NPK respectively along with Gypsum and ZnSO₄ @ 100 and 10 kg/ha were applied at final preparation except N which was applied in three splits at 10-15 days after transplanting (40 kg/ha), at maximum tillering stage (30 hg/ha) and at PI stage (30 kg/ha).

RYT# E. All the genotypes including check variety showed the highest yield potentials at Rangpur. The highest location mean yield indicated that Rangpur was the most favorable environment followed by Comilla and Bhanga. BR6475-16-B-2 and BR6732-16-5-4 had consistently higher yields across the locations indicating their general adaptability. Also, these lines had seedling height,plant height and growth duration more or less similar to BRRI dhan28. RYT#L. The location mean suggested that Comilla was the best location followed by Bhanga . BR6839-41-5-1 and BR4828-2-2-1 superceded all the genotypes and the standard check BRRI dhan29 in yield (mean) across the locations. These entries, therefore,had better general adaptability compared to other entries. On the other hand, BR6484-21-7-3 produced the highest grain yield in Rajshahi and thus showed its specific adaptability at that location. These three lines showed a narrow variation for plant height and growth duration compared to BRRI dhan29 taller seedling heights than the check variety.
