Development of Photo Stability and Its Remedial Measure of All Classes of Dyes Jute Products.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Bleached jute fabrics were dyed with Indigo.After dyeing the samples were oxidized by exposing to the sunlight until it turns into blue shade.Wash fastness,rubbing fastness and light fastness were measured.Soaping treatment improved the blue shade considerably by removing the loose bonded.The rubbing fastness were found to be fair to excellent.Dry staining was better than those of wet staining.Light fastness was excellent.

Objectives:

To improve the technology for dyeing,printing and appropriate process for jute goods.

Methodology:

Desized,scoured and bleached jute fabrics were dyed coloring matter which was extracted from the leaves of the Indigofera Tintoria plant.For indigo blue shade ,Fabrics to liquor ratio was 1:20, added 5%caustic soda and in the dye bath 10%sodium hydro sulphite.Then stired vigorously until the solution foams and turns green.Then insert the material in the cold mixture and oxidized by exposing to the sunlight until it turn into blue.

Achievement/Findings:

A study was made on dyeing of jute fabrics by indigo where different percentage of Indigo and other auxiliaries were used.From the measurement of wash fastness ISO-NO-3 method,rubbing fastness and light fastness it can be concluded that Indigo may be used on dyeing jute and other cellulosic fabric which is completely safe to wear and friendly to environment.
