Comparative Performance of Different Sources of Seed Available at Farm Level.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To compare the performance of jute seed collected from different sources, an experiment were conducted at Faridpur, Rangpur, and JAES-Manikganj research stations during 1999-2000. Results revealed that Yield contributing characters with yield of BJRI seed (O-90897) are better than the others. So, farmers should cultivate O-9897 seed of BJRI to get the highest fibre yield confidently.

Objectives:

To compare the performances of jute seed collected from various sources with the BJRI recommended variety O-9897.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Faridpur, Rangpur, and Manikganj research stations of BJRI during 1999-2000 following RCB design with 3 replications and 4.5m x3.0m unit plot size. Treatment no.1=Farmer's seed, 2=seed from local market, 3=seed from local dealers, 4=seed from BADC and 5=O-9897 seeds (BJRI seed) were used in this study.The seed were sown in mid April. Standard cultural practices were followed. The crops were harvested on an average of 120 days of plant age.Data on yield and yield parameters were taken and analysed following standard statistical procedures.
