Two experiments were carried out both at the research field and laboratory of the Department of Horticulture, BSMRAU, Gazipur, during November 2011 to April 2012 to study the yield performance, nutritional quality and shelf life of strawberry genotypes at different post harvest temperature and package management. The results revealed that the highest yield of strawberry per hectare (12.94 t) was obtained by the genotype V5 (Festival) and the lowest (6.15 t) was obtained with the genotype V4 (BADC Strawberry). Under fresh condition highest ascorbic acid (45.76 mg/100g) was obtained by V1 (Rabi-3) and highest B-carotene (15.09 IU/100g) by V5 (Festival). Highest content (6.373 g/100g) of reducing sugar and non reducing sugar (2.947 g/100g) was found in V2 (Camarosa) and V5 (Festival) respectively. Maximum Ca (0.480%) in V4 (BADC Strawberry), Fe (93.50 ppm) in V1 (Rabi-3), P (0.081%) and K (0.854%) in V3 (BARI Strawberry-1) was recorded. Polyethylene package at 40C proved to be superior to others in all respects. Highest shelf life (47.00 days) and ascorbic acid (42.76 mg/100g) after four days of storage was obtained by V2 (Camarosa) in this condition.

1. To determine the nutritional quality of selected germplasm and presently recommended varieties. 2. To evaluate the shelf-life of strawberry at different temperature and packaging conditions. 3. To obtain the post harvest loss of vitamins and other nutrients in strawberry.

Expt.1. Performance of different genotypes in strawberry Treatment: V1, V2, V3, V4, V5 and V6 Unit plot size: 6mX1.2m, Spacing: 60 cm X 30 cm, Design: RCBD, Replication: 3.  Data on yield and yield contributing characters such as no. of fruits/plant, wt. of individual fruits/plant, no. of branches/plant, no. of leaf/plant and canopy size, yield/plant (g), yield/plot (kg) and yield (t/ha) etc. will be recorded and the produced fruits will be stored in different conditions. Nutritional quality will be determined in the laboratory following the standard method. The methods utilized for the estimation of moisture, dry matter, TSS, titrable acidity, total insoluble solid, carotene and ash where those of (A.O.A.C., 1965) while Lane and Eynon (1923) method will be used for the determination of total sugar, reducing sugar and non-reducing sugar. The ascorbic acid will be estimated according to the 2,6- dichlorophenol indophenols visual titration method of A.O.V.C., (1966) while carotene will be determined photometrically. The pH will be determined with a pH meter. Fruit taste will be assessed organoleptically through a taste testing panel composed of 10 members from male and female students of Department of Horticulture. Expt. 2. Determination of nutritive value and shelf life of six genotypes of strawberry A. The following vitamins and minerals will be determined: Carotene, Ascorbic acid and sugar Calcium, Iron and phosphorus Design: CRD, Replication: 10 B. Shelf life I. Storage condition Treatments: 1. Control (Room condition 25oC) 2. Refrigerated condition (4oC and Moderate condition (12oC) Design: CRD, Replication 5 II. Packaging Treatments: I Polyethylene package & Plastic package Design: CRD, Replication 4 Data to be collected: Initial wt. and final wt. and no. of fruit, weight loss, rottage loss,Vitamin-C content, Taste, colour and texture at 2 days interval. Data analysis: All the statistical analysis will be performed by using MS excel and MSTAT-C software and mean separation will be done using DMRT (Steel et al., 1960).
