Integrated Management of Red Pumpkin Beetle, Aulocophora Foveicolli (lucas) of Pumpkin in Sweet Gourd

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A study was conducted at the research field of Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur during rabi season of 2004-2005 to develop an effective integrated approach for the management of red pumpkin beetle of sweet gourd. Results indicated that seedlings netting with 16 mesh mosquito net at seedling stage for 35 days of germination was found most effective for the control of red pumpkin beetle of local sweet gourd cultivars.

Objectives:

To develop an effective integrated approach for the management of red pumpkin beetle of sweet gourd

Methodology:

A field study was conducted at Vegetable research field of HRC at Joydebpur during rabi season of 2004-2005. Seven treatments viz., Seed treatment with cruzer (T₁); Soil application with Furadan 5G (5g/plant) (T₂); Mechanical control with sweeping net (T₃); Spray with Neem oil (10 ml/L) (T₄); Spray with Neem oil @ 10 ml/L+mechanical control with sweeping net (T₅); Seedlings netting with 16 mesh mosquito net at seedling stage for 35 days of germination (T₆) and Untreated control (T₇). The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with 4 replications. The unit plot size was 10 mX 3.0 m. Treatment T₁ and Treatment T₆ were applied before seed germination. Other treatments were applied after seed germination. Number of infested plant and number of adult per plant and yield of sweet gourd were recorded. Data were analyzed for variance test and means were separated using DMRT. Percent infestation data were transferred in to square root transformation.
