Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Studies were made on the fiber samples and yarns spun from the same fiber of white jute called Dhabdhabey Pat grown and harvested along with the control variety CVL-1. Test results reveal that the physical and mechanical properties of Dhadhabey pat were comparatively good than the control variety of white jute CVL-1 in respect of certain physical properties. But in case of tenacity, extensibility, bundle strength and bursting energy of CVL-1 is better than Dhabdhabey Pat

Objectives:

To study the basic properties of leaves, sticks, seeds and fibers of jute and
To determine the characteristic properties and spinnibility of Dhabdhabey Pat.

Methodology:

For this study, fiber samples of white jute fibre called Dhabdhabey pat and control variety CVL-1, produced under the same agronomic conditions were tested in the standard atmosphere of temp.20ÌŠC +Ì 2ÌŠ C and RH 65%+Ì 2%. Various properties of these fibers such as fineness, bundle strength and bursting energy, tenacity, tensile strength and quality ratio, textile modulus, toughness, moisture regain, moisture content, brightness etc., were determined through standard test methods and regression analysis. The samples were then spun into 138, 207, 276 and 345 tex yarns in the experimental spinning mill of BJRI.

Achievement/Findings:

From the data it was observed that Dhabdhabey was of lower tex value and the lower diameter compared to which were favorable for good spinning.The tex value and fineness of Dhabdhabey Pat varied from 1.17 to 2.17 tex and 33.30 to 34.50 micron respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that Dhabdhabey Pat is equivalent to other varieties of white jute in respect of certain physical and mechanical properties.
