Evaluation of Some Control Measures Against Tomato Fruit Borer (helicoverpa Sp.)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at the Vegetable Division, Vegetable Research Field, HRC of BARI, Gazipur during rabi season 2004-2005. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with four replications. Unit plot size was 3m X 2 m. Thirty days old seedlings of tomato were transplanted on November 2004 using a plant spacing of 60 cm X 45 cm. Six treatments were applied. The treatments were (T₁) =Spraying of Neem oil @ 5ml+trix 2ml per liter of water; (T₂)= Spraying of Kinalux 25 EC @ 2ml/Liter of water; (T₃)= Spraying of HNVP @ 1g/Liter of water; (T₄)= Sex pheromone trap @ 1/10m²; (T₅)= Mechanical control (collection and destruction of the infested larvae and (T₆) = Untreated control with a view to develop an effective integrated approach for the management of tomato fruit borer. From the study, it was revealed that none of the above treatments was able to control tomato fruit borer satisfactorily.

Objectives:

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Vegetable Division, Vegetable Research Field, HRC of BARI, Gazipur during rabi season 2004-2005. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with four replications. Unit plot size was 3m X 2 m. All sprays were applied at seven days interval and sex pheromone traps were set just at crop establishment. All data were recorded from initial infestation to final harvest at seven days interval. Number of infested and healthy fruits, weight of infested and healthy fruit were recorded. Data were analyzed for variance test. Percent infestation data were transferred into square root transformation.

Achievement/Findings:
