Integrated Management of Red Pumpkin Beetle Aulacophora Foveicollis (lucas ) of Sweet Gourd.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at the research field of Horticulture Research Centre, BARI, Gazipur during Rabi Season of 2005-2006 to develop component technology for the management of red pumpkin beetle in sweet gourd. Among eight treatments, netting seedling with 16 mesh mosquito net at seedling stage for 35 days of germination effectively control of red pumpkin beetle in sweet gourd compared to others.

Objectives:

To develop component technology for IPM of red pumpkin beetle in sweet gourd.

Methodology:

A field experiment was conducted at Vegetable farm at Joydebpur during rabi season of 2005-2006. Eight treatments viz., T₁= Seed treatment with Cruizer (Thiamethoxan); T₂= Soil application with Furadan 5G (5g/plant); T₃= Mechanical control with sweeping net; T₄= Spray with neem oil @10ml/L+5ml Trix at 7 days interval; T₅= Spray with neem seed kernel extract @50g/l of water at 7 days interval; T₆= Netting seedling with 16 mesh mosquito net at seedling stage for 35 days of germination; T₇= Netting seedling with 16 mesh mosquito net at seedling stage at main field for 45 days of germination; and T₈= untreated control. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with 3 replications. The unit plot size was 10m X 3.0m. Seeds were sown on December 2005. Number of infested plant, number of adult and fruit yield were recorded. Data were analyzed statistically for variance test and means were separated using LSD test. Percent infestation data were transferred in to square root transformation.
