Confirmation and Selection of F1 Hybrids.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This study was conducted with the objective to confirm the cross combinations as true F1s. Fifteen crosses were grown in the net house of Breeding Division. The F1 seeds along with their respective parents treated with 0.1% mercuric chloride solution for disinfecting them and were germinated and seeded in the earthen pots. Seven crosses for T. Aman and another seven crosses for boro seasons were confirmed and selected as true hybrid by comparing with their respective parents and based on agronomic performance. The confirmed crosses were registered in BRRI cross register with BR cross number from BR7677 to BR7690.

Objectives:

To confirm the cross combinations as true F1s.

Methodology:

Fifteen crosses were grown in the net house of Breeding Division. The F1 seeds along with their respective parents treated with 0.1% mercuric chloride solution for disinfecting them and were germinated and seeded in the earthen pots. Single seedling of 35 days old was transplanted in 5.4 m plots at a spacing of 25 x 15 cm along their respective parents. Fertilizers @ 120:60:40:100:10 kg NPK, cross combinations and ZnSO₄per hectare with three split of N @ 30:50:40 at 15 DAT, 35 DAT and PI stages were applied. Total amount of P,K,Gypsum and ZnSo₄ were applied at final preparation.
