Study of Some Previously Selected Genotypes of C. Capsularis and C. Olitorius.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was carried out in Central Station,Dhaka at 15-03-2000.The C. olitorius accession No. 2920 contained the highest No. of phloem wedges, highest No. of fibre bundle layers and highest area of phloem wedges. Accession No. 3821 contained the higher bark thickness and higher area of phloem wedges compared with the control variety O-9897. Accession No. 3815 also contained higher bark thickness and higher No. and area of phloem wedges. These three genotype 2920, 3821 and 3815 would be tested next year for comparative yield assessment but in case of C.capsularis accessions of No. 827 showed best performance than the control variety CVL-1 in respect of bark thickness, number and area of phloem wedges. Other two accession Nos. 1874 and 815 also showed higher response in respect of area of phloem wedges.

Objectives:

1.To find out high fiber bearing potentiality of genotypes of tossa jute

2.To assess their yield performance and attributes under different agro-ecological condition

Methodology:

The selected 10 genotypes of C. olitorius viz. accession numbers 1836, 3812, 1806, 1419, 3820, 3815, 2028, 4582, 2920 and 3821 and five accessions of C.capsularis were studied for more confirmation about their fiber bearing potentiality in the stem bark.The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications having three meters line of two rows .2cm sized middle part of stem were taken and for microscopic study and preserved into FAA solution. Standard agricultural and agronomic practices were followed.The crop were harvested 110 days after sowing and collecting necessary data( bark thickness, number and area of phloem wedges. Other two accession Nos. 1874 and 815 also showed higher response in respect of area of phloem wedges).

Achievement/Findings:
