An analitacal process for isolation of alphacellulose from jute fibre was optimised by using less expensive chemicals. It was observed from the experimental results that the percentage of alphacellulose, holocellulose and lignin contents of TAPPI method are similar to those of the optimised process which was carried out by using 30% new chemicals appeared to be optimum for extraction of alphacellulose.
Jute fibre,Isolation,Alphacellulose,Holocellulose and Lignin.
Bangladesh jute research institute.
a) Industrial utilization of jute fibre/pulp as raw materials for the production of cellulose derivatives.
b)Studies of intrinsic and extrinsic properties, micro and macro properties of jute and jute products and their modifications with physical, chemical, biotechnological and other possible means.
The present work was undertaken to develop a cost effective isolation method for alphacellulose. The experiments were carried out for the extraction of alphacellulose by a new method along with the TAPPI method. The amount of lignin and alphacellulose content in the isolated holocellulose were determined by standard method.

The conventional method for isolation of holocellulose from jute fibre by using NaClO2 is much expensive.Accordingly the production of CMC from jute by this method becomes very costly. So less expensive chemicals for this purpose are highly desirable. In view of this the present studies provide an expensive method for the production of carboxymethylcellulose of high economic value.
