Milling Performance of Field Dried Aromatic Rice- 2008

Effect of field drying on milling yield of 4 aromatic rice varieties was not significant difference but significant effect was observed for Basmati386.

Methodology:

BRRI dhad37, 38, 39 and Basmati386 were supplied by FMPHT Division which were dried at different conditions such as T₁ = No field drying, T₂ = 4 days left in the field, T₃ = 6 days left in the field, T₄ = 8 days left in the field and T₅ = 10 days left in the field. All the varieties were milled in the laboratory.

Achievement/Findings:

Milling yield of 4 aromatic long grain varieties was acceptable level (66-71%). There was no significant difference among the treatments. It can be said that field drying has no significant effect on the percent of milled rice. This might be due to lack of cracking in the endosperm. On the other hand, comparing the different treatments of a variety, there was no significant difference on head rice yield except BRRIdhan39 which was dried in the field for 10 days that gave 92% head rice yield compared with other treatments. Similarly, field drying effect was found in Basmoti 386, the low head rice yield was in the treatments T₂, T₄ and T₅ but there was significant difference with the treatment T₁ and T₃. In conclusion field drying effect was observed only for the variety Basmoti 386.
