Results presented showed that seed moisture content were not fluctuate much with the use of containers during early period of storage, but at the later months, it had raised highly in seeds stored in jute sack. Results also showed that moisture content of fresh seeds of kenaf varieties/line were observed around 8.6 to 8.8% and seeds stored in tin container moisture level never rose above critical level (critical moisture in 10%) and it remained more or less unchanged up to two months and after that it increased highly and reached above critical level. After six months of storage seeds of HC-2, HC-95 & CPI-72126/1 had obtained 14.4, 13 & 13% moisture respectively.Results showed that viability of fresh seeds of kenaf varieties & line were above 95% and seeds of tin container retained similar seed viability till the end of storage period. Whereas, after six months of storage in jute sack decrease of seed viability observed and those were 64, 60 & 65% in HC-2, HC-95 and CPI-72126/1 respectively.

To determination of storability of kenaf seeds and to reveal the causes of possible deteoriation.

Seeds of two kenaf varieties (HC-2 and HC-95) and advanced breeding line (CPI-72126)were sun dried for 5-7 days. After drying germination and moisture content of the seeds were recorded after each day of drying and it were stored in the air tight tin container for a period of 1-2 years. Seeds of kenaf varieties/line were stored in airtight tin container and jute sack. germination and moisture percentage of these seeds were recorded every month during storage period. Sugar and protein content of seeds also be recorded.

Thus, aging of seeds varied with different regimes of seed moisture content and seeds with higher moisture regimes lost viability at a faster rate. Therefore, high seed moisture content was the most detrimental factor in viability reduction at storage.
