Assessment of Jute, Kenaf and Mesta Seed Quality Produced in Different Regional and Sub-stations of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute in 2005.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The percentage of moisture, germination, normal seedlings abnormal seedlings and dead seeds were recorded in physiology laboratory. It was observed that the quality parameters of jute seeds collected from different regional and sub-stations were good in quality in respect of germination (ranged from 80 to 100%) but the seeds of kenaf and mesta were very sensitive and possessing very low germination (as low as 30%). From the observation it was suggested that the seed moisture content in jute should be less than 7% in olitorius, 8% in capsularis and 10% in kenaf and mesta.

Objectives:

To assess the quality of jute, kenaf and mesta seeds.

Methodology:

58 representative seed samples were collected from Manikganj, Chandina, Faridpur, Kishoreganj, Potuakhali, Rangpur, Tarabo and Monirampur station. The percentage of moisture, germination, normal seedlings abnormal seedlings and dead seeds were recorded in physiology laboratory.
