Evaluation of hyacinth bean (Dolicos lablab) lines resistant to pod borer and yellow vein mosaic virus was studied at experimental farm of Horticulture Research Centre BARI, Gazipur during rabi season of 2008-09. Out of 11 hyacinth bean lines CB0009, CB0029, CB0061, CB0062, CB0072, CB0203, CB0204, CB0223, CB0230, CB0294 and variety BARI seem-1, 4-lines (CB0062, CB0203, CB0223 and BARI Seem-1) found highly resistant against pod borer (<10% pod infestation) and 4 lines (CB0061, CB0223, CB0230 and CB0294) showed low severity against yellow vein mosaic virus (<10% plant infected) which could be utilized for varietal development of hyacinth bean.

To identify hyacinth bean lines resistant to pod borer and yellow vein mosaic virus.

The study was conducted at the experimental field of Horticulture Research Centre, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur during winter 2008-09. Seedlings of hyacinth lines CB0009, CB0029, CB0061, CB0062, CB0072, CB0203, CB0204, CB0223, CB0230, CB0294 and variety BARI seem-1 of 33 days old were were planted in a replicated field where individual plot size was 10 mx1m. The data on infested hyacinth bean pods by pod borer and plants infected by yellow vein mosaic  virus were recorded starting from early stage of the crop. Percent borer infested pods, number of virus affected plants, duration of harvesting period and yield of healthy pods were calculated and analyzed.
